This year, just like last year, we had to live big parts of our lives online due to COVID-19. We thought, why not send out a digital christmas wish this year?
So, we’ve created a completely digital christmas card for you to collect as an NFT. Never heard of an NFT or no idea how to get our christmas card? Check out our FAQ section on the bottom of this page.
The market for NFTs has exploded in recent months, with digital art selling for up to $70 million, Mike Tyson selling tokenized collectibles, and Lionel Messi recently launching his own NFT crypto art collection. But what is it and how does it work?
What is NFT?
NFT is a Non-fungible token. “Non-fungible” more or less means that it’s unique and can’t be replaced with something else. For example, a bitcoin is fungible — trade one for another bitcoin, and you’ll have exactly the same thing. A one-of-a-kind trading card, however, is non-fungible. If you traded it for a different card, you’d have something completely different.
NFTs can really be anything digital (such as drawings, music, video game artwork,...) but a lot of the current excitement is around using the tech to sell digital art. What's stopping people copying the digital art? Nothing. But the buyer of the NFT owns a "token" that proves they own the "original" work. Some people compare it to buying an autographed print.
Why do I need a wallet?
In order to hold cryptocurrency or NFT’s, you’ll need a wallet. There are plenty of options available, but one of the most popular is the browser-based Ethereumwallet MetaMask.
In this wallet, you’ll store your NFT token. If you provide us with your wallet code, we’ll be able to send your our digital christmas card as an NFT.
How can I create my wallet?
If you're using a compatible browser, then your best starting point is to install the MetaMask extension from your browser’s webstore (like Chrome’s).
Creating a wallet is as simple as choosing a password, and writing down the newly generated seed phrase to ensure that you can always recover your wallet if anything happens to your device. This process takes less than a minute, and you’ll have access to your wallet before you know it.
